This afternoon at San Paolo Hospital in Savona, I took part in a ceremony to officially inaugurate the two smart handwashing devices made by the Israeli start-up Soapy Care and donated by the Embassy to ASL 2 in the Liguria Region. The device donated by our Embassy, “Soapy”, is a smart sink connected to the Internet of Things (IoT) and powered by artificial intelligence, ensuring that handwashing is correct, efficient and environmentally friendly. Specifically calibrated to dispense the optimal amount of water and detergent, it guarantees savings of up to 95% on water, 60% on reagents and 95% on electricity. Soapy’s AI can also monitor whether handwashing has been carried out to the required standard, and this data can be processed for further health analyses. Also present at the ceremony with me were ASL 2 Director General Marco Damonte Prioli, President of the Province of Savona Pierangelo Olivieri, Mayor of Savona Ilaria Caprioglio, Angelo Vaccarezza of the Regional Council, President of the Italia-Israele Association Cristina Franco, and Soapy Europe Srl co-founders Federico Raveglia and Ada Grossi. The Head of the Covid-19 vaccination plan task force for Maccabi Healthcare Services, Dr Arnon Shahar, also joined the ceremony remotely from Israel. After outlining the positive results of Israel’s vaccination campaign, I said in my speech: “Israel has reopened; the vaccine works. This result can be replicated here too, in wonderful Italy, which can, must and deserves to emerge from the pandemic. … Israel is working with Italy in many sectors, including healthcare. We recently proposed a partnership to the Italian government in the third phase of developing the Israeli vaccine. We offered to take part in experiments to develop an anti-Covid drug based on antibodies developed at the Biological Institute of Ness Ziona, which the Careggi University Hospital of Florence has already been working with successfully for some time. We also offered to share our latest studies on the effectiveness of the anti-Covid vaccine with Italy. Finally, we asked to launch the ‘Green Pass’ program to allow vaccinated citizens to travel between the two countries. Israeli tourists would be delighted to visit Italy, clearly benefiting the country’s economy.”
